Shalom Prof. Shore,
The idea that science, as well as profound spiritual truth, is encoded in the Hebrew language continues to yield more examples. You found a good example in biology when you pointed out the connection between “Ozen” ear and “Izoon” balance.
As a chemist, I noticed how the structure of the water molecule H2O is encoded in the Hebrew word for water, Mayim, spelled Mem – Yod – Mem. The Mems stand for the hydrogens, whereas the Yod stands for the oxygen. Of course you cannot show it in the Latin alphabet, but written correctly in Hebew print, it encodes not only the connectivity H – O – H but also an approximation of the bond angle of water, which is about 104 degrees. This is seen because the Yod is a smaller letter that is written above the bottom line of the two Mems, so if you draw a line segment from the center of the first Mem to the center of the Yod, and another line segment from the center of the Yod to the center of the Mem sofit, the two line segments form an angle of more than 90 degrees and of less than 180 degrees. How closely the angle is to 104 degrees depends on how closely spaced the letters are written.
It’s always a pleasure to read your posts.

Marion

Rev. Dr. Marion G. Ceruti,
Thank you for the interesting observation about Hebrew for “Water” (Mayim). In fact, I address this word at length in Section 5.4 of my book, though not the angle that forms in the water molecule, as you suggest..
Since the letter Mem (Hebrew for the English M) represents the hydrogen atom in the water molecule (on comparison with the structure of the Hebrew Mayim), would you not expect same letter to appear also in the Hebrew for “Sun”? I wonder…

Shalom Prof. Shore,
Yes, I note the Section 5.4 where you show the diagram of the water molecule and the connectivity relating to Mem Yod Mem. You did mention and show the bond angle in the diagram but did not compare the angle to the visual presentation of the word. When writing a book or a paper, there is always something more that would have been nice to include.
What the word for sun, Shin Mem Shin, brings to mind is the CO2 molecule – linear and the same on both ends (D infinity h point group). Sun and carbon dioxide – two essential components for plant photosynthesis. Together with water, all necessary for plant life, and hence, all life, on earth.
Related topic: There is a branch of Hebrew analysis that considers the shapes of the letters and the relationship between the shapes and some aspect of the meaning of the word. This analysis transcends all levels of interpretation of scripture and is not limited to scripture. The letters in the word, Emet, are three stable letters – if you had three-dimensional models of these letters, they would be stable if you set them on a flat surface. Truth is stable and resists change. Truth cannot be overturned. However, if you consider the word for lie, Sheker, these letters are unstable and would fall over if you placed their models on a table. (I cannot claim credit for this discovery, a Rabbi came up with it. I just don’t remember his name.)
Taking the next step: Just as gravity would reinforce the stability of the configuration formed by the letters in Emet and would destroy the configuration formed of the letters in Sheker, the glory of God reinforces the stability of spiritual truths and rends lies asunder.
Shalom,
Marion

Shalom Prof. Shore,
Thank you for this. The Three Pillars of Truth presents a much more comprehensive picture of how the Hebrew alphabet contains and expresses the differences between truth and falsehood.
Regarding the contrast between truth and falsehood, Paul Foster Case in his Book of Tokens writes “Aleph in truth am I.” Then, he goes on to state regarding Shin, which is shaped like three flames rising from a fire, “By this fire is atonement made.” This ties in with the concept that telling a lie is a sin that requires atonement.

Marion
